The Cycling sport consists of several disciplines, such as MTB (mountain biking), Road cycling, track, BMX (bicycle motocross extreme), Cyclocross, etc. Rules applied for each discipline is the key part of cycling sport. Both competitors and the bicycles they use are subject to be within certain rules. For example, if during road race the athlete uses a bike with skinny tyres and wears bib-shorts and jerseys with full zip in mountain biking and BMX it is partially flexible, and usually rides appear in casual shorts and t-shirts.

Road cycling is the on-road type of cycling while MTB is recognised as off-road with fat tyres and full suspension. Road racing is very popular with outstanding world tour events as well. Those are Giro d'Italia, Tour of Flanders, Paris Roubaix, Tour de France and Vuelta Tour of Spain during which more than 150 riders get actively involved and thousands of spectators follow each event.

The sprint or match sprint is a track cycling event involving between two and four riders, though they are usually run as a one-on-one match race between opponents who, unlike in the individual pursuit, start next to each other.

Depending on the size of the velodrome, this event can be from 600 m to 1000 m. Unlike the sprints in athletics, these events do not usually start with riders sprinting from the starting line and they are not confined to lanes. The early parts of each race will often be highly tactical with riders pedalling slowly, as they carefully jockey for position, often trying to force their opponents up high on the track in an attempt to get their rivals to make the first move.

Mountain biking or just MTB is organised on rough and bumpy road with usually on narrow paths with sharp corners. The bicycle as it was mentioned above is particular; it's usually equipped with one front forks suspension or front and rear suspensions dependent on types of MTB race.

Bicycle Motocross extreme popularly spelt as BMX, the design of which comes from the USA. Despite its simplicity and plain design this kind of sport is considered as one of the most dangerous sports ever due to many acrobatic stunt jumps and riding on trampolines.
